What is an AKC® S.T.A.R. Puppy?
S.T.A.R. stands for Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsibility. The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program is a program that is more than just basic puppy obedience such as sit, down, stay, coming when called, and walking on leash. The program also focuses on you being a responsible owner. It is designed to make your pup a great puppy, beyond basic obedience, and helps you become a great owner. Not only will this create a better relationship with you and your dog, but your time together will be much more enjoyable.
We offer semi-private classes with only 5 puppies in the group. The puppies’ first vaccine should be administered at least seven days prior the first class. The proof of vaccination is required.
This is a 6 week program and classes will be held @Be Happy Dog (235 Hudson St, Hoboken) once a week on Sundays:
March 31st at 5pm for puppies 10-16 weeks old and small breed dogs up to 15 lbs and under 12 months of age
March 31st at 6:30pm for puppies 4-12 months old
The S.T.A.R. classes can only be taught by an AKC® Approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. The evaluator will test your puppy at the end of the course. Upon passing the test, you’ll get an application to send to AKC for enrollment in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. Your puppy will receive the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Medal, and you and your puppy will be listed in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy records.
All puppies have to be up to date with vaccinations and have first round at least a week before the first class. Puppies should be aggression free towards dogs and people. If your dog is aggressive or disruptive you will be asked to leave forfeiting your class payment. You must be on time and attend all 6 classes in order to graduate from the program. Spots in the class are only secured after payment is received. All payments are non-refundable.
Cost of the 6 week program is $350.
